  • ”Each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.” This metaphor helps the reader realize how the ghost might impact the story.

  • The author uses the words “darkness, grim, and haunted” to show the tone. The tone of the poem helps the reader see how the husband is desperate about his wife.

  • “And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain.” This is saying that the curtains are uncertain so it could tell the reader that something bad is going to happen.

  • “And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon’s that is dreaming, and the lamp-light o’er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor…” This is describing how the bird looks so this could influence how the reader thinks of the bird.
