  • Go to Gonzales, Texas and bring me back the cannon we gave to the Texans. Use force if necessary, but try to avoid conflict
  • Yes sir!
  • Give us back the cannon!!

  • Domingo de Ugartechea sent Francisco de Castañeda and other troops to retrieve a cannon that was given to Texans for defense against Indians. Ugartechea was aware of the tensions between Texans and Santa Anna, so he told Castaneda to avoid conclict.
  • Castaneda and his troops go to Gonzales. John Henry Moore and his troops refuse to give the cannon back and state that they are standing up for what they believe in.
  • A parley is set up between Castaneda and Moore. Castaneda informed Moore that he was a federalist and did not like the way Santa Anna was running the government. Moore still refused to give up the cannon and said he was upholding the constitution of 1824.
  • Yay, we won!!!!!!
  • John Henry Moore and his troops go to battle with Francisco de Castañeda and his troops.
  • Castaneda realizes that he is outnumbered and outnumbered. He eventually retreats the battle leaving the Texans for the win.
  • Texans win the battle of Gonzales and gain confidence for upcoming battles. This battle made them think they are strong enough to fight for what they believe in.
