Siužetinės Linijos Aprašymas

This is my storyboard that can help cope with PTSD.

Siužetinės Linijos Tekstas

  • This character on the bed is John. He has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) because he experienced an event that nearly resulted in his death.
  • Encourage lifestyle changes like regular exercise and a good diet. Exercise can release endorphins and improve your mood and outlook. It also helps your nervous system become “unstuck” and begin to move out of the immobilisation stress response. A good diet can keep your weight down and less junk food and sugar keeps your energy levels constant.
  • Encourage John to talk to a trusted friend or family member about the near death experience as well as helping him see that he has a PTSD. Denial of a mental health problem leads to non-engagement of treatment and therapy.
  • Reducing John's stress levels is important. Life is full of stress, like difficult work, financial problems, relationship problems and grief. Reducing as much stress as possible is important and this diversion of therapy can be helpful. E.g: Having a pet (like a dog or a cat) can help release tension and anxiety. Playing and caring for the dog can help keep John's mind off the life threatening experience. Other examples include fishing, developing new hobbies.
  • Encourage John to avoid harmful activities like smoking, recreational drug use, e.g: cannabis and drinking too much alcohol
  • Encourage John to access online e-therapies and mental health websites. E.g: Beyond Blue, Black Dog Institute, Headspace.
