Hello! I am a wood frog. It is almost winter here in the forest.
It is getting very cold, so I better prepare for the big freeze. I need to find a cave so I can get comfortable.

As I start to freeze, the ice starts to suck the water out of the cells in my body. If my cells are completely dehydrated, I will die! To prevent this, my liver starts making large amounts of glucose.
Here we are. This is where I will spend the next 7-8 months! First, I will produce large amounts of urine. Instead of draining it, I will store it in my blood to make an anti-freeze as a reaction(stimuli) to the cold temperatures.
When the glucose my liver produces mixes with the urine in my blood, it creates the anti-freeze! The anti-freeze gets packed into my cells, preventing them from dehydrating. This process keeps my homeostasis in check.
My body then enters a hibernation phase. My organs - including my heart and lungs - and my metabolism completely stop working. I am essentially a frogcicle!

Finally! It is spring, and my body has dethawed after 8 long months. Within 30 minutes of my dethawing, my blood began to flow once more. My body started to gain more water, and my cells are now completely hydrated.
I can now go outside and finally live like normal again until the next winter!
