  • TN THE BEGINNING, before anything else ever was, and when all was empty darkness, Nyx, the bird of night with great black tings, flew alone. In the cast blackness she laid a gleaming egg in which she had hid der the precious seed of life
  • As time passed the seed grew and grow
  • until the egg burst, and out of it emerged Eros, the god of love beautiful youth holding a lighted torch.
  • He broke his shell into two halves. One half rose upwards to form the sky; the other sank below to become the earth. Eros named the sky Uranus-Father Herven; to Mother Earth he gave the name Gaia.
  • From the sky, then, came rain-making rivers, lakes and seas, and giving life to the green plants that sprang from the earth. Earth and Heaven were the first parents and they gave birth to all the gods.
