- Aza Holmes and her two friends Daisy and Mychal are 10th graders who live in Indiana.
- Billionaire Mr. Pickett got into legal trouble and disappeared, leaving no trace to where may have gone. He left his two sons to become orphans. There's a $100,000 dollar reward for him.
- Aza takes Daisy to her old friend Davis Pickett to try to find a lead on what happened to his dad so they could get the reward money. They crash their canoe to get Davis' attention.
- After becoming closer to Aza, Davis gives her $100,000 dollars as a "reward for not sharing the picture"(Green 110.) She takes the money and splits it with Daisy.
- Daisy and Aza wander the sewers after going to an underground art show. Aza realizes that there's a smell of a dead body and puts it together that it may be Mr.Pickett, she then decides to tell Davis
- Davis put in an anonymous tip about the sewer and it was discovered to be his dad, he had in fact been dead all along. Davis has to move away and Aza moved on with her life.
