Harold hardrada invaded England because Harold Godwins became king and Godwinson originally thought that the attack might be from the south. Harald hadrada had 300 ships with 7000-15000 men deployed to engaland(York).
The battle
The housecarls were professionally trained soldiers who were danish that served the monarch 24/7 and there where the fyrds that made up the majority of the army and they had regular lives but when they are needed they fight in the battle. To get to York they marched for 4 days it took 180 miles to get there.
The mistakes that Harald hadrada made was he left the soldiers armor on the boats and his army was scattered. It was important mistake because they were left Defence less with no armor and since they were scattered it was easier for the enemy to beat them.
The story is that this axeman cut down up to 40 Englishmen and was defeated only whenan English soldier floated under the bridge in a half-barrel and thrust his spear through the planks in the bridge, mortally wounding the axeman.
King Harold died because he got shot in the eye by an arrow by a English soldier. The celebration of the victory was cut short because William juke of Normandy decided to attack the east of Yorkshire and William won the battle of Hastings .
