- Theme: True strength, is from cleverness and teamwork, not power. Reynie, Sticky, Kate, and Constance are able to win against Mr Curtain and the Executives. They used there knowledge to succeed and beat Mr Curtain. Mr Curtain lost because he was not clever enough to know what was ahead of him. So Reynie and the others were able to think of a plan that would outsmart Mr Curtain.

- Conflict: Character vs Character Mr. Curtain and Reynie have a conflict involving how Mr. Curtain uses others' fear to control them and how Reynie is kind and honest. He wants to save others. They are total opposites making them silently disagree. This conflict is the main point in the story, where Reynie is trying to stop Mr Curtain and not wanting to join him in brainwashing.

- Character Traits: Intelligent, successful, thoughtful Reynie is intelligent, successful, thoughtful, and many other traits describe him such as generous and hard-working. He is very intelligent because he noticed the floor was rectangles, not squares and he even got through the maze. For example, he passed all the tests, including when he helped Rhonda get a pencil showing he is very thoughtful and generous. He was able to solve many of the riddles in which Mr Benedict gave them and is still part of the mission, making him successful and very hard-working.
