- Elkanah was a Levite man from צופים, with 2 wives, Peninah and his favorite, Chana.
- וַיְהִ֚י לִפְנִנָּה֙ יְלָדִ֔ים וּלְחַנָּ֖ה אֵ֥ין יְלָדִֽיםכִּֽי־סָגַ֥ר יְהֹוָ֖ה בְּעַ֥ד רַחְמָֽהּוְהִ֖יא מָ֣רַת נָ֑פֶשׁ
- Chana was extremely depressed about not being able to have children, and Peninah's mockery only made things worse.
- Well, I have to go feed my husband and children. Who do you have to feed? Oh, right. No one.
- Chana goes to the Mishkan, and begs Hashem for a child.
- Chana, heading to the Mishkan.
- Chana made a vow to Hashem for a son:
- אִם־רָאֹ֥ה תִרְאֶ֣ה בָּעֳנִ֣י אֲמָתֶ֗ךָ וּזְכַרְתַּ֙נִי֙ וְלֹֽא־תִשְׁכַּ֣ח אֶת־אֲמָתֶ֔ךָ וְנָתַתָּ֥ה לַאֲמָתְךָ֖ זֶ֣רַע אֲנָשִׁ֑ים וּנְתַתִּ֚יו לַֽיהֹוָה֙ כָּל־יְמֵ֣י חַיָּ֔יו וּמוֹרָ֖ה לֹא־יַעֲלֶ֥ה עַל־רֹאשֽׁוֹ:
