Sophie Foster has a secret. she can hear the thoughts of humans around her. one day, she meets a boy named Fitz, who has the same ability as her.
I found her!
She is scared because his mind is silent. She can't hear his thoughts, unilke all the other humans that she can hear.
Fitz accidentally scares her away, and she runs out into the smoky outside. it is smoky because there are fires. Fitz chases after her.

Alden tells sophie that now that she has come here, it is best to stay. he tells her that she has to live here now, and that she has to go get her stuff from her human home. she doesnt want them to suffer a lost child, so she tells him that she wants to erase her from their memories. he agrees and Fitz takes ehr to her human house to pack up
She runs out into the street and a car almost hits her. it swerves and misses her by inches, but hits a nearby lamp post. the lamp post falls in her direction, and somehow Sophie uses magical powers and makes the lamp post stop in midair.
woah... how did she do that on her first try?
Fitz uses his pathfinder and takes her to the Lost Cities, where she meets his father Alden. Alden is surprised at her, and explains that he had been looking for her for her whole life. he explains to her that she is an elf, and that her ability is a rare ability of Telepathy. most elves have abilities, but some don't.
