In a surprising move at the Battle of White Plains, October 1776, the British head toward Philadelphia.
Quick men! We must move quickly! They are headed for Philadelphia and the Congress!
We cannot go on now. We must pause our advance and camp here for the winter.
In the fall of 1776, the British troops headed towards Philadelphia stopp their march and disperse into winter camps.
This is going to be a long winter.
Despite the usual winter lack of food and cold weather, Washington decides to cross the Deleware River and attack the encamped British army.
HEAR HEAR!
Take courage men! The river may be rough and the sleet may be cold, but Patriots persevere!
On Christmas Day, 1776, Washington leads around 2,400 men across the Deleware and attack a camp at Trenton during a sleet storm.
Christmas Day or otherwise, we will fight for our freedom!
Show these mercenaries no mercy!
After crossing the Deleware, Washington and his troops attacked thr Trenton camps and killed or captured around 1,000 Hessian mercenaries.
Run! We're being attacked! Spread out!
Shortly after the attack at Trenton, Washington and his troops dispersed three British regiments.
Come on men! This'll be the last of the lobsterbacks!
