GRRRRR!
It is okay,boy.
Chapter 11: Indians in the House
Pa went hunting and left Jack tied to the house so Jack wouldn't follow him. He told Ma and Laura not to untie Jack.
Ahhhhh! Indians in my house!
Jack became sad and Laura tried to comfort him. Then he started to growl.
I'm worried about Ma. Should I let Jack off the chain?... but Pa said not to.
Laura thought he was growling at her but he was really growling at two Indians!
Here have some cornbread and tobacco.
Ma was terrified. She had never seen Indians before.
Laura thought about letting Jack go but then she remembered what Pa had said.
Then Laura slowly went inside to watch what was going on.
Do as I say, Laura.
The Indians ate the cornbread Ma had made, spoke to each other in their language, and left.
Then Ma, baby Carrie, Mary, and Laura all sat down by the fire.
When Pa came home from hunting they told him what happened that day. Pa was mad at Laura for almost letting Jack go.
