- La Bamba Gary Soto
- In the beginning, Manuel walks to school while he thinks. He didnt get his math done. So he thought he was gonna have to miss practice. But they had drills that morning. So after school he went to practice.
- In the middle, there are two main characters they are Benny and Manuel. Benny for the show is going to play the trumpet. Manuel is not excited, but he is performing La Bamba by Gary Soto. So he is going to practices. He mostly wants to see his siblings jealous.
- In the end, manuel performed, but he was nervous. He got on stage and started singing. He was about half way through the song and the record just played the words La Bamba. People were amazed at how he did it, so it all worked out.
- Life in the barrio. Gary Soto was born on April 12, 1952, the second child of Manuel and Angie Soto. The family lived in Fresno, California, and like many Mexican Americans Soto's parents and grandparents worked as laborers in the surrounding San Joaquin Valley, the agricultural center of the state.
