He is different because his ancestors where adapted in another biome this makes their hair and movement change. Also it changes some actions and way of leaving of this animals, and the reactions they have with different deseases or problems but they are still the same dog. this is called Adaptation
Hey why are you different
Some times there where encounters between different animals with total different genes and actions but that they could reproduce, but when they mated due to their offspring and differences it ended up dying shortly after going to life. Due to the differences between they biological order they could not breed. and this could be an example of survival of the fittest because biology had to fit to make reproduction or the mutation will fail

Judging from how different this two animals are it is difficult to say this is the ancestor of the dogs but this happened. Whales started in the earth as a sea animal because of the explosion and extension of dinosaurs. whales evaluated from what they are now and some made the change as they become to adapt to the surface and the earth. This made a lot of animals descend from this this being dogs, wolves, cayotes and more. this happened when whales where as same size as dogs. This is called evolution
