Man, this place is beautiful. Locals need some work, but I could get used to this.
This is our island now, kick rocks.
Boom! Bullseye!
In 1492, Columbus sailed the Ocean Blue. Along the way, he "discovered" an Island in the Indies. An Island that Columbus named "Juana", he described it as "The most beautiful thing that human eyes had ever seen" - ( Martin-Fernandes 2018, p.44)
From then on, the Spaniards wanted everything and everything on the Island they called "Juana" later renamed Cuba. They would do nothing but take and force their will upon the locals. In 1592, a Man named Bartolome de Las Casas arrived on the Island, and he detailed the horror that occurred.
HEEEELPPPP!
The Spaniards were ruthless, “They snatcht young Babes from the Mothers Breasts and then dasht out the brains of those innocents against the Rocks” - (Las Casas 1542, p.5)
The locals who chose to fall in line became a part of the Spanish culture invading the island. They were used as Slaves and had everything taken from them by the Spaniards.
The Spaniards even burned people alive. "I likewise aver, That the Spaniards gathered together as many Indians as fill'd Three Houses, to which, for no cause, (or a very inconsiderable one) they set fire, and burnt every one of them:"
Pffft, losers
The Spaniards did all of this because Cuba was quickly considered "A Key to The West".
