Great Gatsby Storyboard

Siužetinės Linijos Tekstas

  • In the Great Gatsby, we often see a decline in morality from the character Tom. Although he is already in marriage to Daisy, he does not view it as "wrong" or "problematic" to build a new life with another woman ( Myrtle). When Myrtle states, " I want to get one for the apartment. They're nice to have - a dog" ( Fitzgerald 27) it further proves how he is taking advantage of Daisy and Myrtle, and supports how he has lost the ability to determine between right and wrong.
  • When looking at the relationship between Daisy and Gatsby, it is easy to see how attached Gatsby is to her. Ever since their breakup when they were younger, Gatsby has been "frozen" in time, and has never moved on or let go from her. When he says, " Can't repeat the past? ...why of course you can!...I'm going to fix everything just the way it was before" ( Fitzgerals 110) It demonstates how his love for Daisy has taken over his life, and how his morality has declined in the process of holding on to her.
  • An example of decline in morality can be found in chapter 7 of The Great Gatsby. When Daisy hits Myrtle, it shows that her built up anger and frustration about her husbands affair consumed her to the point where she couldn't even think straight. As Gatsby said, " The second my hand reached for the wheel I felt the shock- it must have killed her instantly" ( Fitzgerald 144) . This further demonstrates how Daisy was angry that her depiction between what's right and what's wrong was absent, and she didn't even hesitate by slowing down.
