  • This plan called for two airstrikes against Cuban air bases and a 1400 man invasion. Paratroopers would drop before the launch to disrupt transportation at the same time a smaller force will land on the eastern coast of Cuba to create confusion. The main force would advance to Matanzas and set up a defensive position. Then leaders would be sent in to establish a provisional government. In order to succeed the peoples help was needed.

  • The Invasion
  • On April 15, 1961 the CIA used WW2 bombers and painted them to look like Cuban air ships in order to bomb their fields. They ended up missing most of their targets. This let out news that America was involved in invading them so Kennedy chose not to send a second strike. 2 days later the 2506 brigade landed on the beaches of the bay if pigs and underwent heavy fire. Bad weather came upon them and Cuban planes sank two escort ships.

  • The Aftermath
  • After the B-26s arrived late over 100 were killed. Those who survived were taken prisoner for around 20 months and America wanted to negotiate with Castro. Castro agreed to give back his prisoners for $53 million worth of medicine and baby food. The failure of this invasion led to the creation of operation Mongoose which was a plan to destabilize their economy and invade it that way. Even today these feuds have not been resolved.
