We need to stop Sir Reg from recruiting Park Jin-sun to Umbra! What do we do??
Mother
I guess our only option is to bomb your upcoming chess match and give him a message through algebraic notation. Let's just hope he chooses us (safety) over Sir Reg/Umbra (terribleness).
Paris
Park Jin-sun
Umbra
Sydney
Oh no! I think that Sir Reg and the Sorokin twins are planning to smuggle the Parks out on a private jet! We can't let Umbra get them!!
Jin-sun
Dae-jung
Sorokin Twins
Park Jin-sun is a North Korean nuclear scientist who is seemingly more interested in using his knowledge for research-related things rather than destruction. Sir Reginald Banks is a business tycoon who secretly works for Umbra, an international crime syndicate. Sir Reg and Umbra are interested in Park for his nuclear background, but M16 (the intelligence agency that Paris and Mother work for) can't let him fall into the wrong hands. On this mission, Paris' cover is a chess tournament competitor. Park Jin-sun's son, Park Dae-jung, is an extremely good chess player, and Paris will play against him in the tournament. At a chess tournament, parents in the crowd (including Park Jin-sun and Mother) keep track of their kids' moves using algebraic notation. Paris' and Mother's plan is to spell out a message in notation to Park giving him an option to use his 'powers' for good with M16. This is the inciting incident of person-person conflict in City Spies 3: The Forbidden City: Umbra vs. M16 in the recruitment of nuclear scientist  Park Jin-sun.
M16 and Umbra are fighting over Park Jin-sun, tactically, not literally (person-person conflict). M16's plan is only based off of whether Park wants to defect from North Korea and be free from Umbra or not. On the other hand, Umbra is fully capable and willing to just kidnap him if things don't go their way. However, Sir Reg has done a pretty good job thus far of convincing Park to join him. Park Jin-sun seems willing to entertain Umbra's ideas, because they have sort of sugarcoated their real plans. What will Park do?
Sydney, another member of the team that Mother and Paris are on, has a different cover story as a journalist following Sir Reg's teenage daughter around Moscow. The Sorokin twins, her bodyguards, are the cousins of Nicholas Sorokin, a sketchy Russian criminal working with North Korea. One day, Sydney notices that the twins are listed on the attendance sheet for Sir Reg's private jet out of Russia, along with two mystery passengers who have replaced Sydney and Sir Reg's daughter on the flight. Sydney has reason to believe that the mystery passengers are the Parks (Jin-sun and Dae-jung) and that Sir Reg's plan is to smuggle them out of the country, likely against their will. Who will succeed? Sir Reg and Umbra? Or will M16's idealized plan to take the Parks away in a diplomatic limo be entertained?
