- 2. My first question is who were the progressives and why did the movement begin?
- 1. That's wonderful, lets get started. What's your first question?
- 5. Wow! That's very interesting. I have a follow up question. Who were the Muckrakers?
- 3. Great question! The Progressives were American reformers, like the unions, farmers, and muckrakers.
- 4. The Progressive movement started because they hoped to remove privileges and corrupt partnership of private interests and political bosses.
- 6. Wonderful question! The Muckrakers were the writers who started listing problems in society. Since they were "digging up" problems to list they are now called the Muckrakers.

- 1. That's fascinating. I had no idea that the progressives wanted to corrupt partnerships.
- 2. Yes, it's all truly fascinating.
- 4. Great follow up! There were five main objectives that the Progressives achieved. These include petitions, safe working conditions in factories, minimum age and maximum hours children can work, workers compensation, and public ownership of utilities
- 3. After hearing the reason as to why the movement started, it got me thinking, what were the objectives achieved by the Progressives?
- 5. Can you elaborate on those five objectives by explaining how they were supported?
