Edgar Allan Poe's "The Tell Tale Heart" - Sneak Peak
There, at my door, were three men who introduced themselves, with perfect suavity, as officers of the police.
A shriek had been heard by a neighbor during the night; suspicion of foul play had been aroused; information had been lodged, and they were to search the premises.
I smiled and bade the gentlemen welcome. I took my visitors all over the house and bade them search--search well.
VILLAINS! DISSEMBLE NO MORE! I ADMIT THE DEED! TEAR UP THE PLANKS! OH, IT IS THE BEATING OF HIS HIDEOUS HEART!
In the enthusiasm of my confidence, I brought chairs to the room and desired them to rest from their fatigues.
But, ere long, I felt myself getting pale and wished them gone. My head ached, and I fancied a ringing in my ears...But they still sat and still chatted, still sat and still chatted...
It got louder...and louder... I raved, I raged, I swore...I swung the chair upon the boards...the cops...they were laughing in mockery...they knew, they KNEW!!
I could bear it no longer...
The end. Hope you liked it :)
