Siužetinės Linijos Aprašymas

A short description of India's 4 castes and the Dalits.

Siužetinės Linijos Tekstas

  • India's Caste System
  • Brahmins
  • The highest caste of priests and teachers. They lead others to enlightenment. Many of them only work religiously occasionally.
  • Kshatriyas
  • The caste right below Brahmins, usually comprised of warriors and kings. There is a legend that they were once the highest caste, but were destroyed for their tyranny. There are 3 different kshatriya lines.
  • Vaishyas
  • Vaishyas are the class right below the kshatriyas, with most of the people being merchants or landowners. They aren't allowed to study the Veda, the holy text of Hinduism. Common surnames of this caste include Bahira and Chandgire.
  • ₹
  • Sudras
  • The sudra are the lowest caste. They are usually laborers and servants. Sudras aren't allowed to worship or recite mantras. Sudras are not allowed in temples.
  • Dalits (Untouchables)
  • Dalits aren't in the caste system and tend to do the work no one else wants to do. They (according to Hinduism) are being punished for a crime of their ancestors. Most of the people of India regard them as inhuman.
