Little Rock, 1957. The Brown v Board of Education case in 1954 declared that the racial segregation of children in schools was unconstitutional.
There were no African American students at the Little Rock Central High. This would change when a group of nine African American students, The Little Rock Nine, were chosen to integrate into the white school.
Two days before the Little Rock Nine attends school, the Governor of Arkansas, Orval Faubus, sent the National Guard to the school to prevent them from entering the school.
The Little Rock Nine is not allowed into that school!
When school started on September 4th, 1957, the National Guard was outside the school and denied the Little Rock Nine access inside. Other students and citizens gathered around the school to make it known that they were not welcome.

After hearing about what happned, President Eisenhower sent the 101st Airborne Division to Little Rock on September 24th to ensure the children could go to school.
Send the 101st Airborne Division to Little Rock, we need to desegregate the children in schools.
In 1958, Governor Faubus closed down all of the schools in Little Rock for one year instead of continuing integration in schools. This left thousands of black and white students without access to public education.
