This took place during my senior season, the last season of High School basketball I would ever play. We had gone invictus throughout the whole season and had only one game left.
Our goal was to win this match and become the champions of division 1 in our city's high school basketball league. We planned to achieve this goal through teamwork, communication, and through applying the weeks of practice we had into the upcoming game.
It was a tough match, but we felt confident in our abilities to win. The other team were the underdogs, but we both fought hard to try and win the match in the end.
In the end, we lost the match and had to compete in a tournament for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, where we placed 2nd. I believe our failure was caused by being overly confident, because by expecting we would win, we set ourselves up for failure.
We decided to keep working and practising on our skills, learning from the mistakes we committed that stopped us from achieving our goal. We tried being resilient in order to grow from our failure, instead of being held back by it.
We also identified what personal factors contributed to our loss, and we reflected on our weaknesses, working on them to turn them into strengths. For example, I started working out, putting on weight to help me become a stronger defender and to improve my physical abilities, which would help me become a better player, offensively, and defensively.
