This storyboard describes Shays' Rebellion, from the political causes to the economic causes to the effects. To sum the Rebellion up, after the Revolutionary War, everyone was in debt. Farmers either had to pay land or go to prison. This was because the government was run by the Articles of Confederation, which didn't have the power to tax. The Army was also paid with false money since everyone was in debt. All these events led to farmers revolting the Articles, led by D. Shays. This made people realize that a change was needed in the government.

- We're in debt! What do we do?
- Not sure... We're going to have to pay taxes in land...
- Farmers Going Land-rupt
- We may need your help, then...
- I'm very sorry, but you must either pay land or be imprisoned due to the Massachusetts laws.
- Unfortunately, we cannot help.
- A Weak Government
- Our government is weak... All the farmers are being imprisoned...
- Isn't this due to the Articles of Confederation? And, who's taxing everyone? The people?
- Hey... We're not being paid with silver and gold anymore... Where's our money?
- At the end of the Revolutionary War, in winter of 1786, all the nations were in debt, causing the government to tax everyone.
- The Economic Causes
- Yeah, why is that?! Taxes or something???
- GIVE US OUR LAND BACK!
- Massachusetts passed pro-creditor laws, causing farmers to be imprisoned if they couldn't pay debts. They all asked for help, but the people of other states refused to aid them, since they were trying to improve their own trade.
- An Uprising Rebellion!
- AND WE'RE BEING IMRPISONED WHY?!
- CHA-A-ARGE!!!
- Since the government was run under the Articles of Confederation, it was very weak. The government couldn't tax, so the people had to do so.
- The Effects: A New Government!
- I think it's time to improve the Articles of Confederation.
- Yeah. Then, everyone can be fairly taxed.
- We should also defend against domestic violence.
- The Army was paid with IOUs instead of specie, and the tax on land was high. This caused farmers to struggle. After the Revolutionary War, the whole nation was in debt.
- The taxes and pro-creditor laws caused farmers to revolt in Winter of 1786, led by Daniel Shays. They closed down courts, and this signaled a need for change in the government.
- The Rebellion caused people to realize that they need to improve the Articles of Confederation. This also caused Bowdoin to lose the next election, and the states had to defend against domestic violence.
