By collecting taxes, the government had enough money to fix roads, build and repair temples, and even construct many new public buildings like the Colosseum!
The Colosseum, finished in AD 80, was used for gladiatorial games as well as for political purposes.

During the time of the Pax Romana, many emperors followed Augustus' death. They helped further expand the Roman empire.

The end of the rule of Marcus Aurelius also meant the end of the Pax Romana. Now, Rome begins its decline.
One problem was that there was no reliable system for choosing an emperor. Between 235 and 284 CE, 41 different generals either were emperor or claimed to be emperor, and they almost immediately got assassinated or overthrown after.

Additionally, the idea to incorporate Germanic warriors into the Roman army created many problems. These people did not care much about Rome itself; they were only loyal to gold and secondarily, their commanders.
