  • In 1897,I attended Harvard University but left before graduating due to illness and my wife's pregnancy.
  • In 1900, I moved with my wife and children,Elliot and Lesley, to a farm in New Hampshire
  • In 1912, I sold my farm and moved to England with my family, hoping to live a better life. Within few months, I found a publisher for my book A Boy’s Will. I also met fellow poets Ezra Pound and Edward Thomas who provided significant ecouragement.
  • However, I had several tragedies: my firstborn son, Elliot, died of cholera in 1900. My son Carol (1902), commited suicide in 1940; My daughter Irma (1903) developed mental illness; Marjorie (1905), who died in her late 20s after giving birth; and Elinor (1907), who died just weeks after she was born. Additionally, my farm didn't thrive, but my poetry work thrived.
  • After WW1, I moved to United States and settled in New Hampshire, where I wrote and began my long teaching career.....There, I taught at various universities like Michigan University and I was shoered with honors.
  • On January 29, 1963, 89 yrs old, I died from complications related to prostate surgery in Boston Massachussets
