  • Don't give up, Nora. You once wanted to be a glaciologist. Keep going. You're in the library for a reason.
  • Maybe I've been going about it all wrong. I've been following other people's dreams, not my own. But I don't know what I want, other than moving on peacefully to the other world.
  • Get away! Don't come near me! I'm a human, I'm alive, I'm Nora Seed! I'm Nora Seed, and I don't want to die! I don't want to die! I don't want to die! I'm not afraid of you! I'm going to live!
  • You've progressed. For the next choice, try something subtle. A simple act of kindness, for example.
  • Well...I knew a man named Ash. Just before I died in my root life, he helped me bury my cat, and he was really kind to me when my mom passed away.
  • Living isn't about chasing success or other people's approval. As cliché as it sounds, it's a journey of self-acceptance. But Nora can't be free if she loses the will to go on.
  • Mummy, I had a nightmare about bears!
  • It's ok... M-Molly. Mummy's here.
  • At the librarian's suggestion, Nora enters the life of a glaciologist. The solitude of the barren landscape makes her feel more distinctly human and...herself. A polar bear charges toward her, and she realizes how good it feels to have a beating heart. She doesn't want to die after all.
  • Are you kidding, sis? That was ages ago. I was going through some stuff, and..I was never really mad about the band. I'm just glad you're in my life.
  • Joe, I'm sorry we never got to finish The Labyrinths.
  • The librarian seems more optimistic. She tells Nora to reach for the lives Nora might not think of so quickly, like being a professor of philosophy or a coastguard. Maybe even something as simple as spending time with a kind person. Nora thinks of Ash, a man who helped her through times of extreme loss.
  • I love it here, I've finally found it, but I still remember the Midnight Library. Why can't I forget that stupid place? *sigh* I feel like an intruder into this life. Even if I melt into it like the librarian said, I'll always have arrived too late.
  • In this life, Nora feels something she's never focused on before: love. It seems like she and Ash really hit it off; there's a tiny version of Nora in the cozy Cambridge house. Small Nora puts her faith in her mother just like a pearl in a shell, to Nora's intense fear and delight. Surprisingly, Nora knows her child's name even though she's never met Molly before.
  • Nora and Ash support each other, love each other's company, and do everything a perfect couple should do. Joe's radiant and teetotal, living with his husband Ewan in Hammersmith. It's the ideal happily ever after.
  • Nora knows this is the one that she doesn't want to leave. However, even as the life becomes familiar to her day after day, the memory of the Midnight Library doesn't fade. One day, she feels the familiar sensation of fading away, much to her consternation.
