  • This convention was the first womens rights convention in the United States. Held in New York, the meeting launched the womens suffrage movement, which more than 7 decades later enabled women the right to vote. There were about 300 people that showed up to attend. It was a 2 day convention where they discussed the 11 resolutions on womens rights.

  • The 19th amendment was passed on August 26th 1920 and it gave women the right to vote. This amendment stated that everyone can vote despite what sex you are. This is important because before this point women did not have any rights to vote and it took many movements and many years for this change to occur.
  • Pregnancy Discrimination Act
  • We are going to have to let you go because of your sudden pregnancy.

  • This act was passed in 1972 apart of the education amendments. This prohibited sex-based discrimination in any school or any other educational program that recives funding from the federal government. This is important becuase before this women did not have the ability to get the same education a man was able to obtain.

  • The voting rights act was passed in 1965 and is a staple piece of federal legislation in the United States that prohibits racial discrimination in voting. It was signed into law during the civil rights movement. This is important because races such as african americans did not have the right to vote just based on the color of their skin which is wrong.
  • The pregnancy Discrimination Act was passed in 1978 and was a huge part of the womens rights movement. This act protects women against pregnancy discrimination. This disallows companys to discriminate the hiring process, payment, firing, promotion, or employment benifits based on the pregnancy of a women. This is important because women not getting the same treatmant in the work enviornment as a man just because she is carrying a child is wrong.
  • The 14th amendment was passed in 1866 and is saying that no matter your race, ethnic backround, or gender if you are able to become a US citizen if your criteria fits. It also states that you can not take away basic human rights based on any of those things as well.
