  • This is John. He has paralysis in his lower body, which gives him difficulty performing daily tasks. He has had a hard time finding a job because his disability makes it hard to commute through the city, contributing to a lack of income and financial independence. John wants to overcome these challenges and have a more rewarding life in the future.
  • John received the opportunity from VIRA to become a pilot for a new virtual robot designed to assist on-site staff and customers from home. The robot can be controlled using a computer at home and different controllers based upon the pilot's needs. John has full function in his fingers, using a keyboard and mouse for this system. John is thrilled at the opportunity and becomes a pilot from home.
  • John received the necessary training over two weeks to become an information host and how to pilot his robot. With this new opportunity, John works virtually at the local museum. His job is identical to a tour guide/information host. He can control the robot's movement to guide visitors around the gallery whilst he talks to them through the speaker built into the robot.
  • John has multiple options when it comes to piloting his robot. His robot can be controlled through voice commands, game console controllers, virtual reality headsets and controllers and personally made accessibility controllers. He can see and hear from the robot in real-time through microphones and cameras. He can also interact with people via voice through speakers, and he can use a screen on the robot's body to show information such as maps or text at his command.
  • Whilst at work, John notices somebody attempting to touch a piece of work. He activates the recording on his robot and tries to communicate with the person to stop them from touching the exhibit. This was unsuccessful, and John called another staff member to remove the person.
  • One month later, John has become a proficient information guide at the museum. With his ability to search for information and display extra visuals, he can provide more information than any of the other guides at a click of a button. He feels that he has made a difference to the museum and has a new sense of belonging within the local community. John is also excited about new potential opportunities in other environments. He has picked up extra responsibilities within the museum. With his training, he is set to be a lecturer for primary school visitors when schools organise trips to the museum.
