- The mysterious girl from the fiction department falls in front of Winston. After helping her up she passes him a note.
- Hmmm, what's this note?
- ❤️
- Understood.
- Take a day off work and meet me in the woods at about fifteen o' clock. I will take another route so wait for me.
- After meeting in the canteen, Winston and Julia meet in Victory Square to discuss their future plans
- Winston and Julia meet in a secret hideout in the woods. They get to know each other and then they make love.
- Winston and Julia meet each other more. On one occasion a bomb falls next to them and Winston believes she is dead. He goes to kiss her and finds that she is still alive.
- SHE'S DEAD!!!
- Winston and Julia meet in the room above Mr. Charrington's shop. This room is old and shabby with no telescreen.
- Back in Mr. Charrington's room Winston reads Goldstein's book to Julia. What he reads in the book confirms his thoughts about the war. Julia is not as interested and falls asleep
- Julia and Winston wake up and they are surrounded by thought police. The painting turned out to be hiding a telescreen and Mr. Charrington is a secret member of the thought police. Julia is unconscious after being hit in her solarplexus and Winston is arrested.
- YOU ARE THE DEAD!
- NO!

- Winston and Julia visit O'Brien a man Winston believes is a part of the secret organization the brotherhood. He turns the telescreen off and they agree to many conditions besides separating and never seeing each other again. O'Brien sees them out and tells Winston he will send him a copy of Goldstein's book.
- ‘You are prepared, the two of you, to separate and never see one another again?’
- THEY GOT YOU TOO?
- Winston is in the Ministry of Love where he is constantly being watched. Many people walk in and he hopes one of them has a razor blade for him to end his life. O'Brien walks in and reveals to Winston that he works for the party.
- O'Brien tortures Winston to "cure" him and make him love Big Brother. Winston says he is better morally than O'Brien, so he ridicules Winston by making him look in a mirror. Winston also says that he has not betrayed Julia yet, but O'Brien tells him that Julia has already betrayed him.
- Winston is moved to a more comfortable room and is fed, hydrated, and allowed to bathe. Winston is finally starting to change but his feelings for Julia are still there and he screams out her name by mistake. O'Brien angered by his emotions not changing tells him he needs to be sent to Room 101 where the worst thing in the world is (his greatest fear).
- Julia! Julia! Julia! My love Julia! Julia!
- In Room 101, O'Brien tortures Winston using his greatest fear in the world, rats. He lets them eat at his face but he screams out to do it to Julia and he is let go.
- DO IT TO JULIA! PLEASE DO IT TO HER!
- Winston is freed, he spends most of his time in Chestnut Cafe where he drinks gin and plays chess with himself. He and Julia betrayed each other and no longer talk. He cries over his past memories and looks to the telescreen to enjoy his new love for Big Brother.
