  • Hmmm... Well I am a Liberal Democrat who advocates for social justice and equal rights protected under the constitution...
  • Hmmmm... -Democrat.... :) -Well qualified: US Court of Appeals Judge...... :) -I nominate Sonia Sotomayor!
  • Next stop, the Senate Judiciary Committee!
  • Welcome to the Senate Judiciary Committee! There are three parts to our process of determining the competence and eligibility of a Presidential Nominee to serve on the Supreme court: 1. Vetting 2. First Hearing 3. Committee Vote
  • During the vetting process, the committee authorizes the nominees credentials, and performs a full background history gathering information on previous work records, finances, past legal decisions, and their history.

  • The court's decision in Planned Parenthood v. Casey reaffirmed the court holding of Roe. That is the precedent of the court and settled, in terms of the holding of the court.
  • The committee then holds the first hearing, questioning the nominee about stances on previous rulings, questions about their background, and their qualification
