Projection
To project feelings onto someone else is also a defense mechanism.
This is an unconscious mechanism in which a person's ego keeps threatening thoughts from becoming conscious. It can include the exclusion of distressing memories or feelings from the conscious mind.
Displacement
Denial is a defense mechanism in which a person refuses to accept the reality of the situation, thus blocking external events from awareness and repeatedly deny the event.
Regression
Projection is the process of displacing one's feelings onto another person or thing that you don't like about yourself. A common example would be that someone cheats on their partner because they suspect their partner is cheating on them.
This defense mechanism occurs when a person redirects a negative emotion from its original source to a weaker, less threatening recipient.
Displacement is also a defense mechanism.
Repression is holding back feelings such as the feeling to cry. One might even socially repress or restrain themselves due to denial or due to being overpowered by an emotion.
One of the human defense mechanisms is regression.
