  • Andrew Jackson was able to lower the United States national debt instantaneously. He vetoed bills that related to infrastructure and improvements to save money.

  • He wanted to get rid of nepotism, the favoritism of family members, and represent the common man. He limited the power of the banks and placed greater financial liberty into the hands of the common people. Andrew Jackson was also successful in getting rid of the bank, which he thought was unconstitutional and only made the rich richer.

  • Andrew Jackson made many of his decisions with his close friends instead of with the cabinet. He replaced many Republican officeholders with Democrats, which angered the civil servants because they viewed their jobs as a lifetime service. 
  • Andrew Jackson treated Native Americans very harshly and pushed them off of their lands despite treaties that had been made in the past against that. When the American Indians refused, they were met with military force and most of their warriors ended up dying.
  • Jackson had many supporters that wanted him to be president. Others, hated him and supported John Quincy Adams instead. Andrew Jackson did have many accomplishments and controversy during his time as president.
