The XYZ affair was a scandal that involved the French asking for a bribe to consider discussing about them bombing the U.S. ships. This lead to the U.S. not trusting many immigrated people from France since the U.S. believed that the immigrated people would betray the U.S. leading us to the Alien and Sedition Act.

The Alien Sedition Act
The Alien and Sedition Act included in the government being able to deport non-citizens living in the U.S. They were also able to imprison anyone who spoke out against the government. Which cause such anger with the people that it will lead us to the next event.

Public Backlash
The government faced such criticism from the people because of the Alien and sedition act. It violated the bill of rights and the peoples 1st Amendment. They protested all around the U.S. and made John Adams lose his control over the U.S.
