On October 6, 1789 hundreds of women stormed into the palace of Versailles. They fought and killed many palace guards. They forced the King and his family out of the palace and took the luxuries of Versailles for themselves.
Execution of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette
The Declaration of the Rights of Man stated the principles of the political and philosophical ideas of the Enlightenment thinkers. This declaration was made to replace the ancien régime. They replaced it to create a system based on equality, freedom, and a representative government.
Rise of Napoleon
The Reign of Terror was a period of violence and mass executions. France's government arrested and executed thousands of people between September 5, 1793 to July 27, 1794. The reign of terror came to a close when Robespierre was executed due to a guillotine.
Fall of Napoleon
Louis XVI was put to the guillotine on January 21, 1793. Nine months later his wife met the same fate and was killed on October 16, 1793. If all this wasn't terrible enough their son died in prison shortly after because of his living conditions.
Napoleon began to rise during the French Revolution through the ranks of the military. After he gained power in France in 1799 he decided to crown himself empire in 1804. He started off a successful and skilled military leader and waged smart wars.
Even though Napoleon had many successes with his military and expanded his empire after an invasion from Russia in 1812 his downfall began. He then was defeated again during the battle of Waterloo and had to stand down from the throne and was exiled to Saint Helena where he spent the rest of his days.
