This was an event that the British wanted to take the city and separate Louisiana from the rest of the U.S. British had lost against the U.S. This happened on January 8,1815.
The Treaty of Ghent was signed by the British and American representative. It was signed on December 24, 1814. The treaty stated that all lands be returned and the boundary between the U.S. and Canada will be fixed.
