Falling Action: "Alicia I Talking on Edna's Steps"This vignette is the falling action of the novel since Alicia helps Esperanza realize that she cannot escape where she comes from. Esperanza is confronted with the understanding that physically leaving Mango Street doesn't get rid of her roots by Alicia.

Resolution: "Mango Says Goodbye" The resolution of THOMS is in the final vignette, "Mango Says Goodbye" where Esperanza is summarizing her love for writing. Which serves as a connection to her house Mango Street. She feels as much as she dreams of leaving Mango Street, a piece of Mango Street will stick with her forever. Esperanza also promises that she will return to Mango Street for those that cannot leave, which shows her growth she developed through the novel.
"I write it down and Mango says goodbye sometimes.... She sets me free." (Cisneros, pg 110)

Theme:The novel, The House on Mango's Street, by Sandra Cisneros follows the young girl, Esperanza, and her journey through finding herself and her self-discovery in a new environment. Throughout the book Esperanza seeks independence and tries to define herself without the expectations from her culture.
