- Ghana is located in West Africa in the semi desert Sahel. It is spread over the valley between the Niger and Senegal rivers.
- Trade
- Ancient Ghana lasted from 300 to 1100. The empire fell when a drought came upon the people of Ghana, resulting in them being forced to evacuate in order to find food and water.
- Religion
- The Al-Moravids took over Ghana in 1050 and officially took over the empire in 1076. Ghana was ruled by Dinga Cisse in 750 CE.
- Lasting Contributions
- Ghana offered traders copper, iron, diamonds, agricultural plants, ivory and slaves. The rule for trading was an ounce of gold for an ounce of salt.
- The Al-Moravids came to Ghana and forced the people of Ghana to convert to Islam in 1050. In 1076, they managed to take over the entire empire.
- The introduction of the camel was helpful for the transportation of goods and people across the Sahara. Camels were also helpful for several more centuries after.
