- Are you mad?!? Goneril, Regan, the kingdom is YOURS! GET OUT CORDELIA!
- I don't love you no more than a daughter should
- Just as planned
- You've betrayed me Edgar, you are banished!
- Who is this poor beggar?!
- King Lear is growing old, so he decides to divide his kingdom between his 3 daughters. Whoever can prove that they love him the most wins the best parts of the kingdom. Cordelia doesn't give him a good enough answer, so she is banished leaving the kingdom for her sisters to divide.
- TRAITOR!!!
- Meanwhile,Angry that his illegitimate status makes him powerless, Edmund schemes to banish Edgar and take his place as Gloucester’s heir by turning them against each other.
- I will trick him into thinking this is a big drop...
- I don't want to live anymore
- Lear is finally denied shelter by his daughters and forced to wander outside in a storm. He eventually finds shelter in a cave where he finds the banished Edgar, who is disguised as a mad beggar called “Poor Tom".

- Gloucester's is loyal to his kingdom, I side with him
- When Gloucester tells Edmund that French forces have landed in England to help restore Lear to the throne, Edmund sees a way of gaining his inheritance more quickly. He betrays his father by telling Regan, Goneril, and their husbands that Gloucester is working with the French. When the Duke of Cornwall (Regan's husband) learns that French forces have landed, he and Regan punish Gloucester by gouging out his eyes.
- Gloucester, now blind, wanders through the countryside. Edgar, disguised as Poor Tom, helps his father. Gloucester asks Edgar to guide him to the high cliffs of Dover so he can jump off and commit suicide. Edgar says he will but leads his father instead to a low ledge and tricks him into thinking he has survived a great fall.
- During the battle, a split between Goneril and her husband, the Duke of Albany, is revealed; she accuses him of cowardice. While they are fighting, a messenger reports that the Duke of Cornwall is dead. When Albany asks why and learns Cornwall was killed for blinding Gloucester, he praises Gloucester's loyalty. Albany's loyalties lie with Lear, finalizing the split with his wife.
