- HELP!!!
- Douglass and Covey started to fight. This fight was like all the others. Though this time, both of them were fighting, man to man; not whip to man. Douglass was stronger now, with the root in his pocket, he had the upper hand over Covey. He wrestled Covey to the ground. "Help!" Covey wailed.
- But to his despair, no one was there by his side to help him. He accepted his defeat, like a coward. From this day on, Covey learned NEVER to mess with Frederick Douglass again. That was the day Douglass earned his pride.
- From that day forward, Douglass vowed to never think or act like a slave again. "Just because you are born into a role, doesn't mean that you are destined to stay there. There is always time for change." Douglass now felt powerful. Slavery had lost it's grip on him.
