  • Time to relax for the evening with a few glasses of brandy.
  • A future evening
  • Woe is me! Why oh why is my foot so swollen and painful all of a sudden. Perhaps a few more glasses of brandy will help to numb this awful pain...
  • The following day.
  • Mr Jones, I diagnose hyperuricemia...
  • Doctor, I am in so much pain, I can barely walk. Please help me!
  • What on earth could have caused this to happen?
  • I am going to precribe you a course of anti-inflammatories.
  • As cause of your gout flare-up, Mr Jones.
  • Okay Doctor, thanks.
  • Say whaaaaat?
  • Lifestyle question, is this really the best way for Mr Jones to spend most evenings, regularly consuming alcohol?

  • Interesting advertisement. I must give this health app a try.
  • "LetFoodbe". This app is very intuitive to use, this provides useful food advice on various health conditions. Let's see what this says about gout... Hmm, appears that too much alcohol can be a trigger. Did not know that red meats, oily fish, even soft drinks can be contributory too. There's more beside... This recommends eating cherries and drinking more water as aids to recovery, and...
  • Another evening, still drinking the brandy. What could be the matter with Mr Jones's foot all of a sudden? Could this indulgence be catching up with him somehow?
  • Also it would be helpful to be advised of the likely root cause(s) in the first place. For that matter, what could Mr Jones be doing to try to speed recovery and mitigate recurrence. "Food" for thought.
  • Three weeks later...
  • Lesson learnt, "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food."
  • As Mr Jones prepares to leave the Doctor's surgery, he happens upon an advertisement for the "LetFoodBe" mobile app.
  • Mr Jones is still in lots of pain, but feels empowered by his new found knowledge; that moderation and smart choices in respect to food and drink should help to avoid a nasty recurrence and hopefully mitigate dependence upon prescription drugs.
  • So much better. No longer using anti-inflammatories and pain killers. Still some minor discomfort though, but serving as a gentle reminder to preserve with the positive dietary changes. Thanks to "LetFoodBe"!
