According to nationaleatingdisorders.org, 30 million Americans suffer from an eating disorder.
There are many types of eating disorder but we are going to focus on the two most common

Peer pressure can also influence the desire to be thin.
Although Anorexia is an eating disorder it really isn’t about food. It’s more of an extremely unhealthy way to cope with emotional problems. When a person has Anorexia they equate thinnest with self-worth. Anorexia is more common among girls, women, teenagers. However boys, and men have also increasingly developed eating disorders.

The exact cause of bulimia is unknown. however many factors can play a role in the development of an eating disorder, including genetics, biology, emotional health, societal expectations and other issues.
Bulimia is an eating disorder where some people will secretly binge eat large amounts of food and then purge the food out. Like anorexia it is also related to self image.
