In 1970, Angela Davis appeared on the FBI's Most Wanted List.After evading the police for two months, she was finally arrested. As she awaited trial, she spent 18 months in the Women's Detention Center in New York. After her trial, she was found not guilty of all charges.

During the Cold War she was hosted by the Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev. The Soviet propaganda exploited Davis' name and image; she was shown to Russian victims of socialism in schools, factories, and collective farms as a victim of capitalism. Her liberal words were bent by the interpreters and agents who tightly controlled her. Davis refused to meet with the true Russian political prisoners.
