- Dante and Virgil enter the second circle of Hell, the circle of lust.
- There is still danger for you.
- This circle is much lower than the first circle symbolizing less freedom.Former king Minos is the guard of this circle.
- Minos' grandson who was a cruel tyrant was responsible for teaching people to be sacrificed to the Minotaur.
- Minos told Dante that he is in danger and isn't safe. He tells Dante that there are much worse levels of hell. Virgil told him to not listen to Minos.
- There are large winds punishing the sinners of lust. This symbolizes their rage which overpowers their reason.
- On this level of hell are Cleopatra ("Then follows Cleopatra, lustful queen.") and Samaramis, legendary queen of Assyria(Dante).
