  • The battles of Lexington and Concord British general Thomas Gage heard that the militia stored weapons in Concord, and sent troops to destroy them. 70 minutemen met the British in Lexington, then someone fired a shot. This lead to both sides to begin to shoot. In a result, 8 minutemen were killed in Lexington.
  • The Battle of Bunker Hill The British didn't want the Native Americans on Bunker Hill, so they started killing them. The Native Americans fought back. The British ran out of gun powder, but eventually won the battle.
  • The Battle of Long Island The Continental Army had lots of determination, but not a lot of people. The British army had more people, and guns. Because of this important difference, the Continental Army got a big LOSE.
  • The Battle of Trenton and Princeton George Washington's army crossed the frozen Delaware river on Christmas day. In the battle of Trenton, Washington defeated Hessian's troops before retreating. A week later, he executed a night march to capture Princeton
  • The Battle of Saratoga British General Burgoyne was low on supplies, and had no other British forces to help him, so he went to Saratoga. American general Horatio Gates surrounded Burgoyne's troops, and was forced to leave. The Americans had won big time!
  • Winter at Valley Forge George Washington lead his troops into winter quarters at Valley Forge. This was cold and hard- they didn't have enough food, clothing, or medicine
