  • “O god, I have an ill-divining soul! Methinks I see thee, now thou are so low, As one dead in the bottom of a tomb.” Act 3 scene 5, line 54
  • “Hang thee, young baggage, disobedient wretch! I tell thee what: get thee to church o’ Thursday, Or never after look me in the face” - Act 3 scene 5, line 166
  • This event marks Romeo and Juliet's last day before he leaves for Mantua. The scene represents the love that Romeo and Juliet have for each other. Shakespeare solidifies this throughout their conversation about nightingales and larks. Juliet also foreshadows Romeo's death by saying that she dreamt of him dead in a tombstone.
  • Juliet's actions show how she has grown into an independent woman, where she can make decisions for herself based on her own agenda. This solidifies that Juliet is willing to do anything for her love with Romeo, even defy her own parents. This scene complicates the plot by bringing in another side into the play, it creates more conflict and furthers the plot.
