One of the main themes in "The Mosters Are Due on Maple Street" by Rod Serling is Mankind is it's own worst enemy. Mankind is it's own worst enemy is one of the themes in the story because on page 81 it quotes "Lets pick out every idiosyncrasy of every single man, woman and child on the street," This proves the theme because it shows Steve getting upset that people are accusing him of something just because he has an odd hobby. This is a theme in the story because on page 84 it illustrates people throwing objects at charlie while accusing him. This solidifies the theme because it shows people throwing things at charlie because they believe that he is an alien. Lastly, this is one of the themes because on page 86, the story quotes "There are weapons that are simply thought, attitudes, prejudices- to be found only in the mind of men" This shows that makind is it's own worst enemy because it depicts that that the destruction of humanity will be caused by mankind. In conclusion, mankind is it's own worst enemy is one of the themes because of the quotes, pictures, and descriptions in "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street"
