- hi my names is Katie, I'm 87 years old I've been in hospital for 2 weeks because am bed bound as I cant move anywhere unless I have help by the wonderful nurses in the hospital
- I fell down my stairs and seriously damaged my back, broke every single bone that made me paralysed which is very miserable
- my husband called the emergency services out as quick as they can, they were amazing the suggested to him to put a pillow under my head so I was comfy
- they advised him to keep me and him calm as it could make me unconfutable if I move and could get really bad back pains.
- I'm here today to give you a lesson on how to move a elderly person from bed bound who needs to shower or go to the toilet, but you cant take away there dignity as they may feel stupid having someone helping them shower
- you will need to make sure you are standing in the right position so you don't damage your back when moving an elderly person around, put on foot forward as you prepare to move the patient.
- when your moving an elderly person will need to make sure the equipment you are using to move the client are clean and tight on the bed so it doesn't move anywhere
- Put your weight on your back leg. On the count of three, move the patient by shifting your weight to your front leg and pulling the sheet toward the head of the bed. You may need to do this more than once to get the person in the right position.
- when working in care setting you will need to read the clients assignment plans before doing any manual handling on your client.
