One of the main themes in The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street is a human is it's own worst enemy . I say a human is it's own worst enemy because every turned on a different person every 5 minutes of the story. Evidence 1: The residents of maple street were mad at Les Goodman. Explanation: A little bit into the story Les Goodman's car turned on and it was the only car that turned on so the residents of maple street blamed him for being in contact with some aliens. Evidence 2: Some people of maple street turned on Steve brand. Explanation: When everyone settle down Charlie said he has to keep his eye on Charlie because he's not to sure about him and Steve brand said he knows that everyone is on Charlie's side so therefore everybody turned on Charlie. Evidence 3: The residents of maple street turned on Charlie. Explanation: Charlie saw a black figure and thought it was a monster walking toward them to hurt them and he got a gun and shot the anonymous person, but it ended up being pete van horn and everybody thought since he was so quick to shoot the gun maybe he was setting everyone up and then everybody's house lights when on and off and cars went on and off so everybody went insane and ran all over the place
