Meriwether Lewis and William Clark were sent to America to explore the west of the Mississippi River in 1803. The expedition ended in 1806 September 23.

New diseases spread to the natives through trading with the Europeans.

Bison were killed by the Europeans for their skin, meat and for sport. Soldiers were also ordered by government officials to kill bison because they believed that it would defeat the natives who refused to give away their land. The European would later then fight different tribes for land. These wars were called The Indian wars.

Around 1830 and 1850, more than 100,00 natives were forced to move into reservations called Indian Territory. They had to walk more than 1,200 miles to get there. This was called the Indian Removal Act. This was done so the westward expansion for Americans was easier.
More than 10,000 died either from heat deprivation, diseases and starvation. The walk was called The Trail of Tears.
